Without a doubt, one of the ideals of the Islamic Revolution of Iran was the achievement of freedom and its derivatives. This ideal, which played a significant role in the slogans of this revolution, mostly referred to a negative situation in which tyranny and dependence on foreign powers had disappeared. However, what gradually became important in the years following the victory of the revolution were the positive aspects of freedom, of which there was no clear picture. What does freedom mean under an Islamic government and what will be the fate of its derivatives, such as freedom of belief and expression? How do its limitations and obstacles differ from the global norm? And finally, what is the model of this government in drawing a "free situation"? These were the most important questions that faced the revolutionaries; revolutionaries who had neither the experience of living in a religious government nor were they interested in repeating the new civilization in their new experience in a religious government. This article, using the distinction between the Enlightenment concept and the Islamic Revolution, attempts to provide clear answers to such questions from the perspective of some Islamic Revolution thinkers and to explain their understanding of freedom. Undoubtedly, explaining their attitude towards freedom is of great importance due to the fact that some of the foundations of religious rule are based on their views and can have a significant impact on the drafting of laws and policies related to political and social freedoms.
